Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Active Tahoe coaching for?
Active Tahoe is for adults who want to stay strong, mobile, capable, and engaged in life. You might be an outdoor enthusiast, someone returning to activity after an injury or extended layoff, or simply someone who wants to feel better in your body as you get older.
Whether your idea of an active life involves hiking, skiing, cycling, gardening, traveling, playing with your grandchildren, or exploring new interests, the goal is the same: to keep doing more of what makes life meaningful.
You don’t need to be an athlete; you just need a desire to keep moving forward.
The Active Tahoe name reflects the active lifestyle and philosophy that inspire this work, not a geographic limitation. If you’re ready to invest in your strength, movement, and well-being, we can explore working together from wherever you call home.
How is Active Tahoe different from working with a personal trainer?
Personal training often focuses on exercise, strength, and physical performance. Active Tahoe takes a broader approach, bringing together movement, strength, breathing, body awareness, and mindful living.
Drawing on decades of chiropractic experience, martial arts, and Ki Gong instruction, I help you explore practical ways to improve how you move, feel, and engage with daily life.
The focus is on understanding your body, building useful skills, and creating sustainable habits that support the life you want to lead.
What if I’m not particularly fit or I’m starting over?
That’s absolutely fine. You don’t have to be in shape to begin. In fact, this can be an ideal time to start.
We’ll look at where you are now, what you’d like to accomplish, and what feels realistic for you. We’ll build from there at a pace that respects your current abilities and comfort level.
The goal isn’t to compare you with anyone else. It’s to help you make meaningful progress toward your own goals.
Can coaching help me stay active as I get older?
That’s one of the central goals of Active Tahoe. Maintaining strength, mobility, balance, and confidence can help support your ability to do the things you enjoy throughout life.
Rather than focusing only on age-related limitations, we’ll explore what you can do now to maintain your capabilities, develop useful movement habits, and prepare for the activities you want to continue enjoying.
It’s about being proactive, building confidence, and approaching the years ahead with a sense of possibility.
I have aches, stiffness, or an old injury. Is this for me?
Coaching can help you explore appropriate movement, mobility, and strength-building strategies that support your personal goals. We’ll take your current abilities and limitations into account.
Coaching is not a substitute for medical evaluation, rehabilitation, or treatment when those are needed. If your condition requires medical guidance, we’ll respect those boundaries and work within any recommendations from your healthcare provider.
What is Ki Gong, and do I need experience with it?
Ki Gong, also commonly spelled Qigong or Chi Gong, is a practice that combines gentle movement, breathing, posture, and focused attention.
It can be adapted to different experience and ability levels. You don’t need to be flexible, athletic, or familiar with meditation. We can begin with simple practices and explore how they might fit into your daily routine.
Ki Gong is one of the tools I draw upon to help clients develop greater body awareness, coordination, relaxation, and a more mindful relationship with movement.
What happens during a coaching session?
We begin with a conversation about your goals, challenges, and progress. Depending on your needs, a session might include guided movement, simple strength or mobility exercises, Ki Gong practices, breathing techniques, or strategies for developing greater body awareness.
You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions, explore what works for you, and identify practical things to work on between sessions.
The intention is to help you develop skills you can use independently in everyday life, not to make you dependent on ongoing coaching.
How do online sessions work?
Sessions take place through Google Meet. You’ll need a reliable internet connection and a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone.
Depending on what we’re working on, it can be helpful to have enough room to stand and move comfortably. You won’t generally need special equipment.
Online coaching lets us work together no matter where you live, while still allowing personal conversation, guided movement, and individualized attention.
How is my coaching plan personalized?
Your goals, interests, current abilities, and lifestyle guide our work together. One person may want to improve balance and confidence on uneven terrain. Another may want to regain strength, build a regular movement practice, or develop tools to manage stress and feel more present.
We’ll focus on what matters to you, not a one-size-fits-all program. As your needs and abilities change, we can adjust the approach.
How often should I schedule sessions?
That depends on your goals and how much support you want.
A single session can be a useful starting point for exploring a particular challenge or learning a new practice. Working together over several sessions gives us more opportunity to build on what you’ve learned, assess your experience, and refine your approach.
Regular practice between sessions is an important part of making the work useful in everyday life.
How do I know if Active Tahoe is right for me?
Ask yourself: Is there something I want to keep doing, return to, or improve? Would I benefit from personalized guidance, practical movement strategies, or a more mindful approach to my physical well-being?
If you’re looking for a thoughtful, individualized approach to staying active and capable, we may be a good fit.
